The Order
is a 2003 supernatural thriller film directed by Brian Helgeland. Starring Heath Ledger, Shannyn Sossamon and Mark Addy.

The film takes place in a monastery run by members of the Carolingian Order, a secret organization of the Roman Catholic Church. The organization has a great influence on belief systems around the world, and they are working at the monastery to retrieve a secret text written by a former priest.

The film was shot in Rome, Italy, and uses churches, monasteries and other historical sites to create an atmospheric effect. The film, which received mixed reviews from critics, also failed at the box office.

The 2003 movie The Order is about Alex Bernier (Heath Ledger), a famous Catholic priest, who is summoned to the Vatican where he is assigned to investigate the death of a monk. Alex travels to Rome to investigate the death of monk Antoni, who belongs to the Carolingian Order, a secret cult of the Vatican. Antoni was killed while doing a research, and this murder seems to be the work of this cult, which is performing some kind of ritual.

While trying to unravel an ancient inscription discovered at an archaeological dig where Antoni once worked, Alex is threatened by some members of this secret cult. Alex pursues Lukas, the leader of the secret cult, and meets a monk, William Eden (Benno Fürmann). Alex discovers who Lukas really is and tries to uncover the cult's true plans.

But Alex's job gets harder as it turns out that there is betrayal among the members of the cult and everyone is working for their own benefit. Collaborating with Mara Sinclair (Shannyn Sossamon), a trusted Vatican agent, Alex struggles to uncover the cult's true purpose and the truth behind Antoni's death.

The Order is an action - adventure movie filled with an atmosphere of mystery and an interesting plot.


The 2003 movie The Order is one of the last movies starring the famous actor Heath Ledger. In addition, the film's director, Brian Helgeland, won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his 1997 film "L.A. Confidential."

Filming took place in historical places in Italy such as Rome and the Vatican. The script of the movie is about a book that disappeared during Jesus' last meal and it is about the adventures of two brothers who are after this book. The film contains themes of secrets, mystical elements and religion.

Despite the generally negative reception of The Order by critics, Heath Ledger's acting was praised and the film acquired a cult following with some audiences.
