The Poseidon Adventure is a 1972 movie and directed by Ronald Neame. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Paul Gallico.
The plot of the movie "The Poseidon Adventure" is about a group of survivors trying to escape from the ship after the SS Poseidon, a luxury cruise ship, is overturned by a tsunami. The film tells the story of the passengers trapped in the upturned underside of the ship, trying to escape from the other end of the ship, led by their leader, Reverend Scott (Gene Hackman).
As the passengers make their way up the upturned ship in search of a safe place, many obstacles stand in their way. Cabins, tunnels and other obstacles make it difficult for passengers to progress and they must help each other to survive. Travelers have to pass through many dangerous areas where devastating waters come from, and they have to test their courage and endurance to survive.
The film tells about the struggle of the passengers to get off the ship, their relationships and their commitment to each other. The movie features Gene Hackman as the leader of the survivors. Other players include Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters, Red Buttons, Leslie Nielsen and Roddy McDowall.
"The Poseidon Adventure" was a box office success and received positive reviews from critics. It also won an Academy Award for Best Song in 1972. The film was later remade with a TV movie in 2005 and a remake in 2006.
