Fantômas Se Déchaîne
(1965), or "Fantomas Unleashed" in English, is the sequel to the first "Fantômas" film shot in 1964. Also directed by André Hunebelle, the film is an adventure-athlete movie starring Jean Marais. In the movie, Fantômas escapes from prison and makes a new theft plan. "Fantômas Se Déchaîne" repeated the success of "Fantômas" and gained an important place in French cinema.

In the movie, a criminal mastermind named Fantômas makes a new robbery plan by escaping from prison. This time, his target is a precious gem. Again, Fantômas, who does not hesitate to eliminate the people he thinks can hinder him, will he be successful this time or will he be blocked by three heroic detectives? The film presents a suspenseful action-adventure story and is considered one of the classics of French cinema.

Fantômas Se Déchaîne did not win an international award. However, it has an important place in French cinema as a popular film.

The interesting information we gave in the first movie, Fantômas, is also available for this movie. Let's list them;
  • Actor Jean Marais, who played the role of Fantômas in the movie "Fantômas Se Déchaîne", is also the stepson of the film's director, André Hunebelle.
  • Although not as popular as the first "Fantômas" film, it was a success at the box office in France and was watched by 2.9 million viewers in total.
  • Filming took place in Paris and other parts of France. In particular, the Château de Rocheux, used as the mansion of Fantômas, is a popular location used in many French films.
  • The three detective characters in the movie call themselves "Secret Police". The names of these characters are the same as those of the characters in the popular "Gendarme" series starring Louis de Funès.
  • Fantômas's trademark black mask and black suit was referenced in many cult films and comics in the following years.
  • The film also inspired the television series "Les Nouvelles Aventures de Vidocq", which aired in France in the 1971. The series was one of the most popular productions of French television for a period.
